Dermal fillers are injectable substances used to add volume and fullness to various areas of your face. They are ideal for contouring cheeks, plumping thin lips, improving shallow contours, or softening facial creases and wrinkles. The most common type of dermal filler is hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body. On the other hand, anti-wrinkle injections are primarily used to relax facial muscles that cause wrinkles when we frown, smile, or express other emotions. The leading type of anti-wrinkle injection is Botox, a type of botulinum toxin that prevents muscles from contracting.
-
Dermal fillers tend to last between 6-18 months depending on the type of filler used and the area treated. Anti-wrinkle injections, however, typically last for 3-6 months. For detailed information, please refer to the description of the specific treatment you are interested in.
-
Most aesthetic treatments cause only minimal discomfort, often described as a quick, sharp scratch. When performing dermal filler treatments, a topical numbing cream containing lidocaine is routinely used to enhance comfort. For anti-wrinkle injections, numbing cream is not typically required due to the fine nature of the needles; however, if discomfort is a concern, this can be discussed and accommodated during your consultation.
-
Dermal filler treatments can be reversed if necessary, using a dissolving agent called hyaluronidase, which safely breaks down the filler. However, anti-wrinkle treatments cannot be reversed once administered. Fortunately, their effects are temporary and naturally fade over time, typically within three to four months.
It’s important to note that with over 25 years of experience in performing injections (across healthcare settings, not just aesthetics), the need for reversal is extremely rare due to careful assessment and expert precision.
